Is It Mobility or Flexibility?

May 2, 2021

Is there a difference between flexibility and mobility? We think so. One of the eight FDA-approved uses of the NeuFit NEUBIE is the maintenance or improvement of range of motion.

We do this through our “lengthening” frequencies on the Neubie, giving the tone of the muscle a chance to relax and reduce spasticity. While flexibility is the ability to stretch a muscle to its limit, mobility is the ability to recruit that muscle for mechanical movements in its end range.

While this definition is over simplified, it’s an important distinction to remember between muscle you can stretch to an end range and muscle you can recruit at its end range.

How can you recruit a muscle stretched to its limit? Using the NEUBIE, we’re able to send signals to the mechanoreceptors in the muscles to mimic as closely as possible the signals sent from the brain through the nervous system. With a high-frequency lengthening protocol, those pulses per second become titrated or stacked on top of each other to the point that the muscle cannot fully relax in between those pulses and it eventually resets into its natural, normal state.

This one of the fundamental ways in which the NEUBIE is different than any other electrical stimulation device on the market. An AC powered TENS unit causes co-contraction of the muscles, inhibiting movement and offering a greatly reduced neuromuscular reeducation experience.
