Today is International Women’s Day (#IWD2022) and the 2022 theme is ‘Breaking the Bias’.
“Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. A world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women’s equality. Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias.
Celebrate women’s achievement. Raise awareness against bias. Take action for equality.”
Powerful words! And March is Women’s History Month whose 2022 theme also speaks to all of us at NeuFit® pretty directly… “Providing Healing, Promoting Hope”. It is both a tribute to the ceaseless work of caregivers and frontline workers during this ongoing pandemic and also a recognition of the thousands of ways that women of all cultures have provided both healing and hope throughout history.
“Providing Healing, Promoting Hope” and “Breaking the Bias” are themes everyone here at NeuFit, women and men both, understand well since we began pioneering a better way to harness our body’s nervous system to achieve breakthrough results. There was nothing like the NeuFit Method when we launched nor was there anything like our Neubie® neuro-electric stimulation device. There were many biases against our work. What guided us to persevere and continue to pursue our mission was the belief that we could offer meaningful healing options and newfound hope to our patients.
Growing NeuFit – A Woman-Led Company
We’re proud to be blazing a trail in how we are growing a healthcare business too. You may not know that we are a woman-led company. In fact, on our 6-person leadership team, 5 of us are women! Our expertise spans business management & entrepreneurship, customer success, quality management & operations, research & clinical education, and marketing. (just to name a few!)
It’s about the issues that we focus on as an organization. One that we care a lot about is building a safe and respectful workplace…for everyone. We launched company-wide training for Building a Safe Environment (BASE):
BUILDING A SAFE ENVIRONMENT STARTS WITH US
CREATE SPACES WHERE ALL FEEL VALUED. BE CURIOUS. LEARN TO NAVIGATE TOUGH CONVERSATIONS.
RESPECT AND EXPRESS BOUNDARIES. UNDERSTAND THAT COMFORT LEVELS CHANGE.
BUILD A CULTURE OF CONSENT. PRIORITIZE
IMPACT OVER INTENT. VALUE DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION. TREAT OTHERS AS
THEY WOULD LIKE TO BE TREATED. APOLOGIZE FOR YOUR MISTAKES AND DON’T REPEAT THEM.
RECOGNIZE POWER DYNAMICS. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS. GET SUPPORT.
RESPOND WITH EMPATHY AND BELIEF. BUILD TRUST AND RAPPORT. ASK QUESTIONS AND
BE AN UPSTANDER.
In addition, we recognize the need our female and male team members have for nurturing their wellness and give our team three wellness days per quarter to focus on their physical and mental self-care.
Our continuing education for medical professionals keeps women in mind. We recently created a course that focuses on women’s issues postpartum, pelvic floor, and how to go about speaking to women about these issues. It will go live later this month in fact!
A day and a month come and go all too fast. What’s important is for all of us to internalize and live our values so we can make them part of how and what we do every day. It is a never-ending journey to a better future for all.
Let’s charge forward (with gender equality) to better outcomes together!
